When the Bay Area Shelter-in-Place order went into effect in mid-March 2020, I began taking weekly Sunday morning walks with a friend. Our first walk, in the beautiful Tilden Park, was a perfect beginning —until we neared the end, approaching the parking lot. There were far too many people on the narrow paths and in those early days of the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, we didn’t like the “crowds.” Before the following Sunday, we picked another park hoping it would fare better with the “crowds.” Suddenly an additional five people somehow equated a crowd.
My friend and I continue to walk every Sunday morning at our “new” park. No crowds. Wind. Views of the city. Views of three bridges. Birds. Native plants. Weeds. Goose poop. Ships and container boxes. This is a growing collection of photographs from my Sunday morning walks as well as any walk I take during this time. These are all photographed with my phone.
